Stem cells are the body’s raw material. That is this are cells
which form other dedicated/ specialized cells.
This cell divides into more cells called daughter cells which either
become new stem cells or become specialized cells with specific functions such
as blood cells, heart cells, brain cells. No other cells in the body have the
ability to generate new types of cells.
Now am sure you must be wondering, what part of the body
create this magic cell. Well in brief, stem cells come from the bone marrow or
fat, three to five weeks old embryo, Amniotic fluid which surrounds a fetus and
the umbilical cord blood.
Now the studies of growth and development of stem cells have
giving researcher the opportunity to
- Better understand How Diseases occur
- Generate healthy cells to replace diseased cells under controlled lab conditions
- To test new drugs for safety and effectiveness.

This post is to enlighten us on the possibilities of stem cells
curing the numerous numbers of incurable STD out there. Let’s take a look at
Stem cells research records.
Incurable STD could be eliminated through stem cells
treatment
Scary diseases such as HIV, Herpes could be cured with stem
cells treatments, according to experts.
Results have shown cells collected from umbilical cords can do
this, two men with HIV who were being treated for cancer in Boston had been
found to have no trace of the disease in their bodies after stem cell therapy.
Having received a stem cell transplant that replaced their
white blood cells, a man (identity hidden) seems to be free from the virus. Researchers
still warn of it been early to say he is free from the virus. But he has been able
to stop taking the Antiretroviral drugs, with no signs of the virus returning 18
months later. Stem cell treatment was first used on a man Timothy Ray Brown,
aka the ‘Birling patient’, who is still virus free.

So far other patients who receive treatments are showing
response similar to Brown’s, says Andrew Freedman, a physician at Cardiff
University in the Uk.
A team led by Ravindra Gupta, describes a research report in a
paper due to be published on Nature on 5th of March. The research shows the patients white blood cells
with HIV resistance variant after a successful transplant which replaced the white
blood cells with the HIV resistance variant, which were unable to be re-infect
ted with the patient’s version of HIV. It showed that the virus was completely
gone from the patient’s blood after the transplant and the patient remained HIV
free even after the 18th month. Gupta says its still early to claim the patient
is cured until he is virus free for a longer period.
There are more treatments and It is safe to say there is hope
for a much bigger breakthrough. But currently all documented treatments are
still in the research phase and most show to be on the HIV virus.

Currently, the best way to cure is prevention. Be sure to stay
protected at all times and to keep your self and every one safe.
Educate the children, grow the awareness around you. I remember
a generation of great Fear for HIV as all media and schools made it a point
each day to educate children. This awareness is slowly degrading.
