Most people feel ‘it’s safe to

unlike old school intercourse’. Well am sorry to tell you, but you are dead
wrong.
Let’s see a few diseases that are transmitted via oral sex
1. HIV: - Now let’s start with the scariest. HIV. We all know HIV is transmitted simply put via exchange of bodily fluids. So am guessing you are thinking, how does one get HIV from ‘giving head. Well to understand that, you are going to understand the clinical lingo, ‘receptive oral sex’. Now this refers to the art of performing oral sex on someone i.e. ‘giving head. Therefore, the one giving the head {performing the act} is the receptive partner. The receptive partner is the person receiving the penis or vagina in their mouth. Now that said. How does a receptive partner contact HIV? Well this is done when the body fluids (semen, vaginal fluid, blood from wounds or menstrual blood) gets into cuts, sores, ulcer or inflamed areas somewhere in the mouth or throat. Well if you are like me, you would be wondering, ‘how real Is this’? well studies show there is a 0.04% of HIV infection through oral sex with an HIV positive partner and a 0.82% for unprotected anal sex. i.e. around 4-5 infection out of 10,000. Some experts have called HIV transmission via oral sex ‘extremely low risk’ if there is no ejaculation.2. Herpes: - Herpes Simplex Viruses is categorized into two types – herpes type 1(HSV-1 oral herpes) and herpes type -2 (HSV-2 genital herpes). HSV-1 cause sores around the mouth and lips (sometimes called fever blisters or cold sores). It can also cause genital herpes when transmitted from the mouth to the genitals. But most cases or genital herpes are caused by HSV-2. Although rare, HSV-2 can also be transmitted from the genitals to the mouth.
3. Gonorrhea: - Well we all know of the painful bloody urine caused by intercourse with an infected person. Well bad news. It can also affect the throat in the throat, the bacteria can cause inflammation, formation of pus and sometimes soreness. To make the matter worse. There is rising growth in case of ‘anti-biotic resistant oral gonorrhea’ infection
4. Chlamydia and Syphilis: Syphilis is a highly contagious disease spread primarily by sexual activities, including oral sex. If left untreated, it could lead to paralysis, blindness and death. Chlamydia, caused by ‘chlamydia trachomatis’ infects the cervix, rectum, or throat in women, and urethra, rectum, throat in men. Cause burning sensation during urination, discharge from vagina and penis, pain during intercourse, and pain and swelling in one or both testicles. Both can be treated with anti-biotics.
5. HPV: - Human Papillomavirus. This crazy virus has more than 200 strains. And about 40 kinds can infect the genital area (vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum, anus, penis and scrotum. Including mouth and throat). This kind are spread through sextual encounters. The other kinds cause common warts and aren’t spread through sex. Two types of HPV strains cause genital warts. But most types lead to cancer. Unfortunately, there is no cure for HPV. But there are vaccines that ca help protect you from ever getting certain types of HPV. Genital warts can be removed by the doctor. And cancer-causing HPV can be treated if detected in early stage.
